HoverCam Ltd. is located on the bluff overlooking the east end of Plymouth breakwater. HoverCam is close to the enormous wall visible from many parts of the city and harbours, and even closer to the radio masts which are also easily visible. Drive through the golf club car park, past the clubhouse, bear left and down through the gates.

To reach HoverCam Ltd. from the City Centre, depart eastwards along Exeter street on the A386 towards Yealmpton. Cross Laira Bridge (you will know this when you see it).

At the roundabout after the bridge, take the second exit (the first goes to a supermarket). Follow the road to the first set of traffic lights. Turn Right. Follow the road to the first set of traffic lights. Turn Left.

Follow the road. You will see a sharp fork backwards second on your right. Take the next (third) right and follow the road for about a mile. You will pass 2 mini-roundabouts, go down, then up a hill and then pass through Staddiscome village.

Just after the national speed limit at the end of the village, there is a turn to the right. Turn right, follow the road through the S bends and continue for about a mile. You will see the radio masts from some distance away.

This is the live view from Staddon Heights at the mouth of Plymouth Sound.

The camera is extensively used by the BBC as a backdrop for weather reports and for regional TV news bulletins.

This image is updated every five minutes Monday to Friday, during daylight hours, and throughout the afternoon at weekends.

The camera is controlled remotely from Broadcasting House in Plymouth.

At dawn it is pointed east to catch the sunrise, in the evening it is moved to catch the sunset.

In between it may be pointing at traffic over the Laira bridge, people enjoying the sun on Plymouth Hoe, or ship movements in Plymouth Sound, especially on Thursdays when Royal Navy ships depart on exercise.
